Equality Toledo Faith Leaders Coalition
invite you to attend a brief prayer service as a part of the
"American Prayer Hour" on February 4, 2010, at 10 a.m.
The Prayer Service will be at Unity of Toledo
3535 Executive Parkway, Toledo, OH 43606.
We gather because: "Every February, politicians and religious leaders flock to the National Prayer Breakfast. Long a tradition in the Capitol city, the National Prayer Breakfast is organized by the Fellowship Foundation, a fundamentalist Christian organization, scrutinized for their involvement in the Ugandan government’s draconian proposal to criminalize homosexuality – punishable by life imprisonment or death. We cannot be silent or complacent at such an egregious violation of basic human rights and decency. The American Prayer Hour offers an alternative to the collusion in prayer with those who would inflict and support such unspeakable cruelty on another child of God.” - Human Rights Campaign
Visit us online at http://www.americanprayerhour.org/anchor-events/ for more information and to support the Prayer Hour."

Description:
Hit by a Farm: how I learned to stop worrying and love the barn, Catherine Friend
Farms have fences. People have boundaries. Mine began crumbling the day I knelt behind a male sheep, reached between his legs, and squeezed his testicles. This took place one blustery November day when I joined other shepherd-wannabees for a class on the basics of raising sheep. I was there with my partner Melissa, the woman I’d lived with for twelve years, because we were going to start a farm .
When self-confessed “urban bookworm” Catherine Friend’s partner of twelve years decides she wants to fulfill her lifelong dream of owning a farm, Catherine agrees. What ensues is a crash course in both living off and with the land that ultimately allows Catherine to help fulfill Melissa’s dreams while not losing sight of her own.
Hit by a Farm is a hilarious recounting of Catherine and Melissa’s trials of “getting back to the land.” It is also a coming-of (middle)-age story of a woman trying to cross the divide between who she is and who she wants to be, and the story of a couple who say “goodbye city life” — and learn more than they ever bargained for about love, land, and yes, sheep sex.

OSU Multicultural Center is proud to present: An Evening with Angela Davis
For those who do not already know about the important roles that Davis played in the Black Panther party, women's liberation movement, and socialist/communist struggles, this in an excellent opportunity to get up to speed.
Davis has published numerous articles, essays, and books, including her autobiography, several books on women and feminism (most notably Women, Race & Class, 1981) and on radical prison reform. Nationally and internationally Angela Davis has been a popular lecturer on the necessity for social change, whether women’s rights, global peace and disarmament, improved opportunities for workers, affordable health care, prison abolition, or the need for and encouragement of youth activism today.
In order to achieve social change Davis argues for politically based coalitions that organize beyond race and ethnic group to include differences in class, culture, gender, and sexual orientation. “We have to recognize the intersectionality, the interconnectedness of all of these institutions and attitudes.”
In a 1997 interview with OUT magazine, Davis confirmed rumors that she is a lesbian, a subject about which she had long been reluctant to speak openly. For Davis, every facet of life is weighted with political significance. Come hear what she has to say!

If you have a gay child, family members or friend, you are not alone. We invite you to attend our confidential, monthly support meetings where you can obtain information about your loved one’s sexual orientation while dealing with your own feelings in a warm, confidential and supportive atmosphere.
By meeting gay people, parents and family members come to realize that homosexuality is found in every ethnic and socioeconomic group. Even more importantly, they learn that stereotypical views of homosexuality have no place or validity with this group that represents a significant percentage of the world’s population.
Meetings are loosely structured and new participants are not obligated to share or speak. Just listening and attending can be a learning experience.
