Passing pro-equality legislation takes time and years of hard work. Marriage planning in Iowa started more then
5 years ago. Vermont, under then Gov. Dean, was the first state to grant civil unions in 2000. Only now, in 2009, has
the work culminated in marriage. The people of Vermont spent years evaluating civil unions and storytelling to the
legislature about civil unions not being the same as marriage.
The point is this - these successes took WORK, years and years of WORK. People from around those states told
their stories, created relationships, and changed hearts and minds.
The situation is no different here in Ohio. The Equal Housing and Employment Act (EHEA) is an important first step
in Ohio. But make no mistake, the EHEA will not pass if we don’t WORK for it.
Bring your story to the statehouse on May 13th to make a difference.
