Equality Ohio History

Fueled by the passage of Issue 1 on November 2, 2004, grassroots activists, organizational leaders and business representatives from around Ohio decided to join forces to make the Buckeye State a place that treats each citizen equally in the interpretation of its civil law. On April 22-23, 2005 nearly 60 individuals from across Ohio and the nation came together to create a vision and mission that would best serve Ohio's GLBTI community well into the future. A new vision was adopted April 23 and a strong mission was drafted. Also, a Core Design Team was chosen. Core Design Team members were selected to represent the best interests of their respective region of Ohio. Their charge was to work together to begin developing a strong foundation for Equality Ohio so the organization can move Ohio toward a better future where all individuals and their families feel at home in our state.

In August 2005 the Core Design Team completed their vital work after working successfully together for 90 days to get the organization off to a strong start. Upon the dissolution of the Core Design Team, Equality Ohio's first Board of Directors was appointed.
