Equality Ohio Lobby Day 2012

Lobby Day 2012 kicked off just a few short hours ago! Hundreds of grassroots lobbyists, have been filling the statehouse all day, speaking with their legislators and educating them on the issues that matter most. From the Equal Housing and Employment Act to an enumerated anti-bullying bill, we're well on our way to changing hearts and minds!

The day began with a introductory speech from Equality Ohio Executive Director Ed Mullen, followed by a rousing speech from State Representative Nickie Antonio and appearances by PFLAG National President Rabbi Horowitz and State Representative Ross McGregor.

Throughout the day, grassroots lobbyists will visit their legislators to speak on the Equal Housing and Employment Act and share their own stories on discrimination. We know from previous Lobby Day events, the most effective way to change hearts and minds is for us to share our stories. We have the ability to put a face on our issues and show our elected officials how passing this legislation with positively impact the lives of hundreds of Ohio.

Additionally, this year, we were also able to pass a non-enumerated version of the Comprehensive Safe Schools Act. Unfortunately, this is not the bill we expected. A standalone enumerated safe schools bill is pending in the House Education Committee and the Equal Housing and Employment Act is working its way through the legislature.

Today's efforts will pave the way for equality throughout the state!
