Equality Ohio Legal Clinic Welcomes New Staff Attorneys

We are excited to welcome Emily Meyer and Andy Dugan to the Equality Ohio family as Staff Attorneys for the new Equality Ohio Legal Clinic. Emily and Andy will traveling the state to provide much-needed legal services to LGBTQ Ohioans.

Emily Meyer graduated from the University of Dayton School of Law and pursued a Master’s degree in Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies from the University of Cincinnati. Having previously worked in intellectual property law, she is excited to begin her work with Equality Ohio and fulfill her dream of using her legal background to serve the LGBTQ community and promote social justice in her home state of Ohio.

In her free time, Emily enjoys cheering on the Buckeyes, Dayton Flyers, and Cincinnati Reds. She loves swimming, trying new restaurants, and FaceTiming with her niece. Her favorite books are A Tree Grows in Brooklyn and The Bell Jar.

Committed to intersectional LGBTQ justice, Emily is a founding member of both the Cincinnati Women’s Fund’s Engagement Committee and the YP Board of Cincinnati Works, a local nonprofit working towards poverty reduction by connecting job seekers with employment training and opportunities.

Emily is admitted to practice law in the State of Ohio and the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Ohio. She will be based in Equality Ohio’s Cleveland office.

Andy Dugan is from McDonald, Ohio, a suburb of Youngstown and earned his Bachelor’s degree in Finance from Ohio State University before attending law school at Capital University, where he focused on constitutional law. Andy is excited to work with the Equality Ohio legal clinic because, while gaping holes in the patchwork of laws that protect LGBTQ individuals from discrimination in Ohio make the job more challenging, he wants to demonstrate that the legal system can work for everyone, regardless of sexual orientation, or gender identity or expression.

Outside of legal work, Andy is politically active and loves spending time with his two black labs, Reggie and Ronnie, his nephew Cooper, and many young cousins. His favorite movies are Titanic and Mrs. Doubtfire, and he watches RuPaul’s Drag Race every week.

Andy is excited to have the privilege to serve as the Columbus attorney for the Equality Ohio Legal Clinic so that he can devote all his legal, professional, and personal skills to help protect LGBTQ individuals across Ohio.

Andy is admitted to practice law in Ohio and Maine and is based in Equality Ohio’s Columbus office.

Equality Ohio’s legal clinic will serve LGBTQ Ohioans in navigating the legal system in areas such as: Criminal Justice Support/Advocacy, Family Law, Consumer Law, Benefit Support, Administrative Agency Support, Expungements, and Name Changes.

The Equality Ohio Legal Clinic is also developing a network of attorneys across the state to assist in matters outside the purview of the clinic. If you are an attorney and would like to be involved in the Legal Network (and have the opportunity to earn CLEs, you can find more information and join here.
